VEN PONGAL

Ven Pongal is a popular south indian breakfast recipe,mostly served with vadai,sambar,chutney in restaurants.Most easiest recipe that can be made easily even for a group of people.Lets make them following these simple steps with pictures.

INGREDIENT

1 cup raw rice

1/2 cup moong dal

4 cups water

Salt to taste

Coriander leaves for garnishing ( optional)

FOR TEMPERING

3 tbsp ghee

1 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp whole black pepper

1 inch long ginger chopped

2 chopped green chillies

7 Cashews

METHOD

Soak the rice for 15 mins ,then add water , salt and cook them.

When the rice is cooked drain the excess water and keep it aside,i cooked them in a vessel.
If you want to pressure cook them,just cook for 4 whistles , then simmer the flame for 5 mins after that switch off the flame,once the pressure subsides open the lid.

Heat ghee in a kadai, in simmer flame add the items under tempering and let them  splutter.

When they splutter add to the cooked rice,moong dal and mix them well.

Serve hot with your favourite sambar and chutney.

TAKE CARE TIPS
                                                                                                                                  The quantity of water to be added depends upon the quality of your rice.

You can add 1/2 tsp of grounded pepper to cooked rice for a spicy version.

The cooked rice and moong dal should be soft and mushy.
