Snake gourd is a well known veggie used in various Indian recipes.They are pale green or grey green in colour.It is rich in fiber and its laxative property cures constipation.It gives a cooling effect to our system.Also helps in weight for they are very low in calories.I have posted here a recipe of snake gourd with just a tsp of oil.

INGREDIENTS

200g snakegourd /Pudalangai
2 tsp bengal gram
2 green chillies (chopped)
1 onion (chopped)
2 tsp grated coconut

TO TEMPER

1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp urad dal
1 tsp oil
A sprig of curry leaves
Salt to taste

METHOD

Wash the snake gourd in water,gently scrap the outer skin part(need not use a peeler).Cut the snake gourd vertically and remove the seeds and the fibrous part found inside.Cut them into pieces.
Cook the snakegourd in water with salt for 10 mins in a pan on medium flame.Drain the water and keep it aside.
Pressure cook the bengal gram for 5 whistles.
Heat oil in a kadai,add the mustard seeds and urad dal.When they splutter add the curry leaves,green chillies and onions and saute for 2 mins on low flame.
saute some onion.
Now add the cooked snake gourd,bengal gram and grated coconut,mix them well and remove from flame.

Snake gourd kootu /Pudalangai kootu is ready to serve.
