Karuvepillai/Curry leaves are natural flavouring herbs with enormous health benefits.Curry leaves are not only healthy but also tasty.It is used in most of the South Indian cuisines.We use these leaves for tempering and throw them away while eating.The simplest form of including them in our diet is either to make juice or chutney.Just take a bunch of these leaves and make this easy chutney at home.

INGREDIENTS

TO GRIND

2 cups curry leaves
4 cloves garlic
2 tsp grated coconut
4 dried red chillies
1 marble size of tamarind
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
3/4 cup water
Salt as required

TO TEMPER

1 tbsp sesame oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dal

METHOD

Grind the items under ‘To grind’ with water and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a kadai,add mustard seeds,urad dal and when they splutter add the grinded mixture.

Bring it to boil,when it boils,simmer the flame and cook for 10-15 mins or until the raw smell of curry leaves goes off.

The oil separates and the chutney is ready to serve now.

Serve the Karuvepillai Chutney / Curry leaves Chutney with Idly,Chapathi,Dosai,Sandwiches or Steamed rice.
