Kara Chutney,a South Indian style made using more of shallots with one or two tomatoes.This chutney has a tangy and spicy taste which makes it go well with almost all breakfast items.Kara Chutney is even served with street foods like bhajji and bonda in Chennai,the best place to have street foods.Never miss the chance to taste it on streets of Chennai.

Serves :3
INGREDIENTS
25 shallots
2 tomatoes medium sized
4 dried red chillies
3 cloves of garlic
1 tbsp grated coconut
2 tbsp oil
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
TO TEMPER
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp urad dhal
METHOD
Heat oil in a pan.Add garlic,coconut,red chillies and saute for a min on low flame.
Switch off the flame and let it come down to room temperature.
In a blender add the sauteed items,fresh shallots,tomatoes and grind them to a fine paste.
Heat oil in a pan again,add the mustard seeds and urad dhal.
When it splutters add the ground mixture,water,turmeric powder,salt and bring to boil.
When it boils simmer the flame to low and cook for 10-15 mins until the raw smell of the shallots goes off and oil separates.
Serve the Kara Chutney with Idly,Dosai or your favourite breakfast items.
TAKE CARE TIPS
Cook the chutney until the raw,pungent smell of onion goes off.
You can add a pea sized tamarind to the chutney while grinding.
