Salt to taste
Water as required
Few coriander leaves for garnishing

1/4 tsp ground pepper
1 green chilly (chopped)
2 inch piece of ginger(chopped)
A generous pinch of Asafoetida
Few curry leaves
METHOD
Measure the oats and moong dhal.Cook the moong dhal first separately in a cooker for 3-5 whistles and keep it aside.
Heat oil in a pan,add the items under’to temper’column. When they splutter add the asafoetida.
Now add the cooked moong dhal,1 cup water, pepper, salt and bring to boil. When it boils simmer the flame to low and add the oats.
Close it with the lid and let it cook on low flame for 4-5 min on low flame.Once cooked, garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve the Oats Venpongal with Sambar and Chutney
TAKE CARE TIPS
Do not over cook the oats, add water in 1:1 ratio for oats.
Measure and then cook the moong dhal
You can also add some roasted cashews to the pongal.
