Puttu is a traditional and popular breakfast recipe of Kerala usually served with kadalai curry (chickpea /chana).I dont make puttu that often but when I do I make this whole wheat flour puttu.An easy puttu recipe for it doesn’t require any special process in preparing the flour.
Healthy zero oil recipe where the flour is roasted,steamed and served with grated coconut ,sugar or jaggery.It can be served for breakfast,dinner or for evening tea time snack.

PREPARATION TIME : 15 -20 MINS

COOKING TIME : 15-20 MINS

SERVES : 2-3

INGREDIENTS

1 whole wheat flour

1/3 cup warm water

1/3 cup grated coconut

3-4 tbsp sugar

1/2 tsp cardamom powder

1/4 tsp salt

METHOD

Roast the wheat flour in a kadai for 10-15 mins on low flame or until the raw smell of the flour goes off.Spread them in a paper to cool down completely.

Add salt to the warm water and mix well.Now add this salt water little at a time and mix well.When you take a handful of flour and press it between your fist it should take a shape and when dropped should crumble.The flour should be little moist without any lumps.

Fill the Idly cooker with water,spread a damp cloth over the idly trays and add the flour to it.Steam for 15 mins or until they are cooked completely.

Transfer the cooked wheat to a large mixing bowl add grated coconut,sugar,cardamom powder and mix well.

Serve the soft,healthy whole wheat puttu for breakfast or dinner.

TAKE CARE TIPS

You can add a teaspoon of ghee to enhance the taste and flavor.
