Pooranam kozhukatai is stuffed sweet kozhukatai with grated coconut and sugar as filling. One of my favorite kozhukatai and also a must for Vinayagar Chathurthi every year.
Unlike ,Pidi kozhukatais these Pooranam kozhukatais takes time in shaping them.A very simple filling that doesn’t require any cooking.
Make sure you make a thin outer covering with the dough with good amount of the filling inside to enjoy the sweetness in every bite.
PREPARATION TIME : 20 MINS
COOKING TIME : 12-15 MINS
YIELDS : 23-25
INGREDIENTS
1 cup HOMEMADE IDIYAPPAM FLOUR
1 & 1/4 cup water (little more or low)
1/2 cup grated coconut
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt (optional)

METHOD
Grate the coconut and mix it with sugar.
Mix flour and salt together.Bring water to boil and add it to the flour to form a soft smooth dough.
Make equal sized balls, take one portion and press gently to shape into a small cup with your palm and fingers.Add 1 & 1/4 tsp of the filling.
Fold the dough to form a semi circle.Seal the edges well by pressing them gently.
Steam for 12-15 mins or until they are cooked well inside.
Sweet Pooranam Kozhukatais are ready now.
TAKE CARE TIPS
Use a mould to shape the kozhukatais if you are a beginner .
Use homemade flour for good results.Store bought idiyappam flours has little amount of cornflour that makes the kozhukatais rubbery after steaming.
Kozhukatai made from homemade flour remains softer always.
Yum!

Swapna,
Great recipe. what is also interesting to me is how different states have similar sweets- it is very much like modak made for Ganesh Chaturthi.
Do you use boiled rice for making this flour?

Thank you,Sandhya….Your Modak recipe looks so rich and delicious…I have used 1 cup parboiled rice and 1 cup raw rice to make the flour…

Awesome Swapna….We mangloreans add jaggery instead of sugar. Also, with the sugar version of sweets.. cardamom+sugar mixture version also tastes good.
