Sugar cookies are the ideal holiday cookie and a favorite cookie for many.One of the easiest sugar cookies recipe which I have being trying for years.Making sugar cookies at home is so much fun,you can also involve your kids in shaping and decorating them.It would be a fun filled activity for them.

If the dough looks crumbly,just knead them until soft and smooth.You can shape and flavor them as you wish .For flavoring you can use lemon or orange zest or spices like cardamom,cinnamon and cloves.Sugar cookies can be decorated using sprinklers or frosters.I have just made them plain today,they are so delicious and perfect for any party!

PREPARATION TIME : 15 MINS

CHILLING TIME : 1-2 HOURS

BAKING TIME : 180 DEGREE C (12-15 MINS)

INGREDIENTS

3 cups all purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

A pinch of salt(optional)

METHOD

Sieve the flour,baking powder and salt.

add flour,baking soda,salt

Cream butter and sugar until smooth.Beat in extracts and egg.

Add the dry ingredients little at a time to form a dough.Wet your hands and knead the dough until soft and smooth.Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least an hour.

Divide the dough,roll out onto a floured surface and cut using cookie cutters.

Preheat your oven at 180 degree C and bake for 12 mins* or until edges are light golden browwn.Let the cookie cool until firm enough.

bake for 12-15 mins

Decorate as desired with icing,sprinklers and sugar.Store cookies in tightly covered containers.

TAKE CARE TIPS

Vegetarians can omit the eggs ,they are so perfect even without eggs.

Recipe yield vary on how thick you roll the cookies and how large or small your cutters are.
