Kadalai Paruppu Payasam / Chana dal kheeer is a creamy and delicious payasam recipe that is so healthy with the addition of jaggery for sweetening instead of sugar.There is no need to take any jaggery syrup, you can add the crushed jaggery directly to the cooked dal. The addition of grated coconut and the ghee roasted nuts,caradamom,raisins makes the payasam rich and perfect for any celebration.For a richer version you can also add done condensed milk. Roasting the dal with ghee enhances the flavourof payasam.A very easy Neivedhyam recipe that could be made in a jiffy.

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup kadalai paruppu / chana dal
1/2 cup jaggery
2 cups water
1/4 cup coconut milk
1/4 cup grated coconut
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
8 cashews
8 raisins
3 cardamoms
2 tbsp ghee + 1 tsp

METHOD
Roast the chana dal with a tsp of ghee in low flame for 2 mins.Then soak them in water for 20 mins.Pressure with turmeric powder,2 cups water for 3 whistles and then simmer the flame to low and cook for 10 mins.
Then add 3 cardamoms to the cooked dal and add jaggery now.Let it cook for 5 mins in low flame until the jaggery dissolves.Switch off the flame and add coconut milk and mix well.
Add grated coconut and ghee roasted nuts and raisins.
Healthy Payasam is ready to serve now.
Serve the payasam warm for lunch.
