Murungai Poo Poriyal / Drumstick Flower Curry

Murungai or Moringa is widely used in Indian cooking especially in the southern parts of India.Drumstick is widely known to be therapeutic with a very high nutrition content. The drumstick tree, seeds, pods, fruits (which is known as drumstick) and flowers all have medicinal properties.Drumstick flowers are edible and are used in making dal ,curries ,chutneys and soups.Today I ve shared an easy kootu recipe with Murungai poo that goes well with dal for lunch.Do make this healthy curry at home and have a happy meal .

PREPARATION TIME : 10 MINS

MAKING TIME : 15 MINS

INGREDIENTS :

1 cup Murungai poo / Drumstick flower

2 tbsp cooked toor dhal

1 tbsp cooked bengal gram

2 tbsp grated coconut

2 green chilies slit

1 onion

Few curry leaves

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 cup water

Salt to taste

2 tsp oil

METHOD

Wash the drumstick flower and keep it aside.

In a kadai ,heat oil add mustard seeds,urad dal,curry leaves,green and chilies and saute for 2 mins.Then add onions and saute for a 2 mins in low flame.

Add the flowers and saute for 2 mins in low flame.Add water,turmeric powder,bengal gram,toor dhal ,salt and cook for 10 mins in low flame.

Switch off the flame and add the grated coconut.

Serve for lunch with dal and rice.
