Prawn Kulambu / Eraal Kulambu

A quick prawns kulambu made with prawns and veggies cooked in tomato and coconut gravy.It goes good with plain rice , idly and dosai.I ‘ve added just cumin and coriander for flavour too much masala might dominate the flavour of prawns.You can also add potatoes, raw plantain or brinjal to make this curry.Make sure you clean and devein the prawns well to avoid fishy smell in the gravy.

INGREDIENTS

To grind

1 onion

1 tomato

2 tbsp grated coconut

Other ingredients

1 onion chopped

1 tomato chopped

4 cloves garlic

1 drumstick

1/4 kg prawns

3 tbsp oil

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

1/2 tsp urad dal

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp chilli powder

1/2 cumin powder

1 tsp coriander powder

Salt to taste

Few curry leaves

A gooseberry sized tamarind (soak in 1/2 cup water for 1/2 an hour)

METHOD

Heat oil in a pan , add mustard seeds, urad dal ,curry leaves , garlic and saute for 2 mins.
Then add onions , tomatoes,prawns, drumstick and saute for 5 mins on low flame .

Grind the ingredients under ‘To grind‘ and add it to the sauteed veggies.Add the tamarind extract also.

Add enough water for gravy ,add turmeric powder,cumin powder, coriander powder,red chili powder, salt and cook for 15 mins on low flame with closed lid.

Switch off the flame and let it set for 10 mins.
